Veterans Day is a federal holiday that honors the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces. It’s celebrated annually on November 11, and in 2025, it falls on a Tuesday. If you typically run errands early in the week, you may be wondering: Is the post office open on Veterans Day? Here’s everything you need to know to plan ahead.

Is The Post Office Open On Veterans Day?

No, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in observance of Veterans Day. As a federal agency, USPS observes all federal holidays, meaning:

  • Post office locations will be closed
  • No regular mail or package delivery will occur
  • Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered on Veterans Day

If you need to send mail, plan to do so before November 11, or expect a delay in service until Wednesday, November 12, when regular operations resume.

Online USPS Services Still Available

While you can’t visit your local post office on Veterans Day, you can still use your online USPS account to:

  • Schedule package pickups
  • Print shipping labels
  • Order stamps, boxes, and supplies

You can also drop letters and packages into collection boxes, which will be picked up once service resumes. Use the USPS website to find a nearby box.

If you need stamps, many grocery stores, gas stations, and pharmacies sell them and will likely be open on Veterans Day.

Will UPS And FedEx Be Open On Veterans Day?

Yes, both UPS and FedEx will operate on Veterans Day 2025, with some exceptions:

  • UPS and FedEx stores will be open during regular business hours
  • UPS SurePost® and UPS® Mail Innovations may experience delays
  • FedEx Ground Economy deliveries may also be delayed

If you need to send a package urgently, UPS and FedEx are reliable alternatives to USPS on this holiday.

USPS Holiday Schedule 2025

USPS observes 11 federal holidays in 2025. Here’s when the post office will be closed:

  • New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, January 20
  • Presidents Day – Monday, February 17
  • Memorial Day – Monday, May 26
  • Juneteenth National Independence Day – Thursday, June 19
  • Fourth of July – Friday, July 4
  • Labor Day – Monday, September 1
  • Columbus Day – Monday, October 13
  • Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11
  • Thanksgiving Day – Thursday, November 27
  • Christmas Day – Thursday, December 25

Note: If a holiday falls on a Sunday, USPS typically observes it on the following Monday.

UPS Holiday Closures

UPS closes for only four holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

This makes UPS a dependable backup when USPS is closed.

Regular Business Hours

Most post offices are open Monday through Friday, from 8 or 9 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. Some locations offer limited Saturday hours, but schedules vary. USPS is closed on Sundays, though Priority Mail Express may still be delivered.

Veterans Day is a time to honor those who’ve served, and USPS observes the holiday with a full-day closure. While no regular mail will be delivered, online USPS services, collection boxes, and alternative carriers like UPS and FedEx remain available. Just be mindful of potential delays and plan ahead to avoid disruptions.
